“Welcome to the Millennium Hilton, sir. We’ve got you booked for two nights, in a room with a king-sized bed, non-smoking OK? Great. Your view is an eye-scalding reminder of the horror inflicted upon thousands of innocent lives, inescapably visible day and night, the persistent groan of the cranes a kind of mechanized lament. And there’s a continental breakfast. Enjoy!”

I stayed at the Millenium Hilton in late May and we must have been in a better room; we could still see ground zero… but only in the most peripheral of views. What I was most surprised about was how little it seemed had been done to the site.*

* I know there is a lot of underground infrastructure and preparation work to do, but to the average person, it simply looks like they’ve done little or nothing in the last 8 years.
